1- Writing Assignments Unit
Written Response format requirements
Every written assignment you turn in MUST meet these requirements totaling 40 points of your final grade. I reserve the right to not grade any assignment not meeting these requirements.
1- Writing Assignment: “The Importance of Costume in Theatre” and “The Art of Costume Design: Exploring the Creative Process”
Read and annotate the article together as a class and write a one-page response to the question.
Response question: Citing the articles as evidence, discuss what you believe is the most important element of costuming for the success of a production.

2- Vocabulary Unit
Students will learn 10 words a week
3-Actor Preparedness Unit
1- Base Garment/Makeup
Learn how to build a base for your costumes and how to apply basic stage makeup
4- Script Design Unit
1- Script analysis
Read and code the fall show
2- Director’s Statement
Read and code the director’s statement to align designs with director’s vision/concept
2- Research
Build a google doc for research and notes
5- Character Designs Unit
1- Assign characters to design
Each costumer will choose at least 2 characters to design for in the fall show
2- Research
Costumers will research time period and historical ideas for their characters, must include pictures and explanations
3- Mock ups
Costumers will draw mockups for each character’s costume, makeup and hair looks
4- Statement
Costumers will write a Costume Statement for their design pitch
5- Costume Plot
Students will learn how to write a Costume Plot
6- Trackers
Students will learn how to track costume changes as a Dresser
6- Pitch Unit
1- Power Point Pitch
Costumers will put together a power point to pitch their designs to the Director
Power points must include:

Costumers will pitch their designs to the director and get feedback and approval
7- Working with Actors Unit
1- Measurements
Students will learn how to measure actors and costumes
2- Pulling
Students will learn how to pull costumes from our stock
3- Fittings
Students will learn how to work with actors on fitting costumes, how to speak to actors with respect and ensure modesty
8- Sewing Unit
1- Hand sewing
Students will learn how to sew a whip stitch and a button
2- Machine sewing
Students will learn how to use a sewing machine
9- Hair/Makeup Unit
1- Neutral face
Students will learn how to apply neutral gender faces
2- Old Age
Students will learn how to apply old age makeup
3- Hair- curling
Students will learn how to use curlers for hair designs
10- Stock
1- Maintaining Stock
Students will learn how to hang and roll costumes in our stock. Students will learn where everything is kept in our stock
